Goodbye Venus

We had to say goodbye this morning to our 17 year old cat Venus. Lou and I adopted her from a farm in Oxford to make the move with us after we graduated college and moved to our first home in Cincinnati. Since then, she's followed us everywhere we've gone--from O'Bryonville to our house in Blue Ash, our condo downtown, to our house in East Walnut Hills and our current home in North Avondale. All who knew her could tell you of her spunky personality (to put it lightly), but she grew increasingly sweet in her old age. It's amazing how much of our lives she was a part of--5 moves, 2 births, 1 new dog. A lot has changed since we were just a couple of college kids dating who thought we needed a pet! We'll all miss her and her morning meows for milk. Josie will especially be heartbroken with this news, as she & Venus have become quite the pair over the last few years. Venus spent her last night curled up in Josie's bed with her and passed away in Lou's arms. Rest in peace Venus.

Hueston Woods Summer Campout

In preparation for the big Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore trip later in August we rented this darling camper for a test run to Hueston Woods State Park in July.

It was a great reminder that:
  • We have so many great weekend getaways within a couple hours drive.
  • Our family loves adventuring.
  • It's harder to go from a over-scheduled life to a no-scheduled weekend than we thought.
  • Test runs are important.
  • We don't need much to have a good time.
  • Do stuff like this MORE.
Photos below provide the highlights that included archery, horseback riding, stargazing, swimming in the lake (and at the dedicated dog beach!), hanging out in the campground, going on a pontoon boat ride, the awesome camper and the mandatory trip into Oxford to reminisce our early days as Two (Young) Schneiders.
