Thank you Stacey!

Now that we are double-digits into September, I suppose it is time for me to realize summer is actually over.
The girls had a fantastic summer and Stacey was a big part of that. Thanks for spending your summer with us Stacey. We hated to lose you but we know how lucky those middle schoolers in Oak Hills are to have you!

Petting zoo party

Sweet Keaton turned two and we had a fantastic time at her party! This bunny pretty much had the best day of his life being carried around, sang to, brushed and sent down the slide by these sweet little girls.

A Kitty Christmas Present

That Josie is always planning ahead! Here she is holding the Christmas present that she made for our cat Venus (because why not?) all by herself. The card says I love you Venus and has a stamp of "josie" & "venus" with awards and smily faces. Inside she wrapped up a big ball of yarn. Venus was very impressed! ;)

What a month!

Josie planned out the month of September and it looks like we are going to be quite busy with Easter, St. Patrick's Day, a road trip, Father's Day, the movies, shopping, swimming and so much more. The funny thing is, this wasn't random, she was totally talking through it and plotting it all out. She started to put the "sick day" magnet on and goes "oh...wait...i don't want to plan on being sick, silly me!" Love this girl!

Happy Halfy Baby Bea!

SWEET BEATRICE IS SIX MONTHS OLD TODAY!!!

According to Josie you are now "zero and a half" - which is a little bit unbelievable if you ask us!

And you are six months of sweet, smiley, giggly, chunky and adorable PURE JOY!

The Pokeweed Story

Our focus this spring and summer was almost entirely on the back yard, so the front yard and side yard have gotten a little, shall we say, wild!  We have all kinds of crazy things growing. Some of the biggest most prominent plants are those pictured above. And here's how "the pokeweed story" goes...  

Lou: "Hey Carri, what is this?"

Carri: "I don't know. It's kinda pretty."

Lou: "Is it a weed? I like it."

Josie: "Oh...that's just pokeweed!"

Lou & I:  {silence...because we were speechless.}

A little backstory - Josie has an alphabet hanging in her bedroom with a plant for each letter of the alphabet. Even as we speak, if you asked me to name more than a handful of the 26 plants on those cards, I couldn't do it - let alone identify the plants in the wild! Once again, Josie's memory blew our minds!

Let it be known...

Today, Sept. 7th 2011 is the day that Miss Beatrice woke up and decided the following:

• Sleeping through the night is for suckers!
• Separation Anxiety exists!
• Pacifiers are grrrrr-eat!

Oddly enough, all three of these new behaviors just started - right on target developmentally. Infant development is SO fascinating!

Sunflowers

Our first summer with sunflowers has come and gone. Josie is settling into the new routine of being back at school, going outside suddenly demands long sleeves and socks. And somehow it is September! I have a lot of catching up to do on the blog, so expect updates throughout the week.

The sunflowers really were the icon for our first full summer at the house. The seeds that started off in Josie's curious little hands grew to exceed all of our expectations and now lay drying out in the bathtub so we can harvest the seeds for replanting next year. {Cue the "changing of the seasons" song of your choice.} There's a fuller blog post on this swirling around my head should I find the time for it. Hope you're all doing well - and that time is passing more slowly for each of you than it is for us (although I somehow doubt that it is).
